Whether you’re a history buff, a culture lover, or a foodie, you’ll find something to suit your taste in Girona.
And of course, you’ll also have plenty of time to enjoy the bachata festival and dance the night away!
Day 1: Explore the Old Town and the Jewish Quarter
Start your day by strolling through the charming streets of the Old Town, where you’ll find medieval buildings, Gothic churches, and colorful houses along the river.
Don’t miss the Cathedral of Santa Maria, which has the widest Gothic nave in the world, and the Arab Baths, which date back to the 12th century.
You can also visit the Masó House, the birthplace of the famous architect Rafael Masó, and admire his modernist style.
Next, head to the Jewish Quarter, one of the best preserved in Europe. Here you can learn about the history and culture of the Jewish community that lived in Girona until 1492.
You can visit the Museum of Jewish History, which displays artifacts and documents from different periods, and the Bonastruc ça Porta Centre, which hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
For lunch, treat yourself to some traditional Catalan cuisine at Nexe,
a cozy restaurant that offers creative dishes made with local ingredients.
Try their duck magret with apple and foie sauce, or their cod confit with honey and mustard.
In the afternoon,
you can continue exploring the Old Town and discover some hidden gems, such as the Sant Pere de Galligants Monastery, which houses an archaeological museum, or the Sant Nicolau Church, which has a Romanesque bell tower.
You can also climb up to the city walls and enjoy panoramic views of Girona.
For dinner, splurge on a gastronomic experience at El Celler de Can Roca,
one of the best restaurants in the world.
Run by three brothers who are experts in cooking, pastry, and wine, this restaurant offers a seasonal tasting menu that will blow your mind. Expect dishes like smoked sardine with almond cream and grapefruit, or lamb with mint and peas.
